Project Description:

After approximately 2,000 mature trees were removed to prepare for the three-mile Phase 1 of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) I-75 modernization project through the City of Troy and Bloomfield Township, ROWE led a team of Value Engineering, LLC, and The Davey Tree Expert Company to design the landscape and plant a hearty variety of 4,000 trees. All design and construction was completed in a short planning and planting timeframe.

ROWE’s role in the project included:

• Project management
• Landscape design
• Assisting with public meetings
• Modifying design plans based on stakeholder comments
• Developing the maintenance of traffic plans for the contractor to use during planting and maintenance
• Providing technical support during construction

Challenges included selecting trees that would be hearty, available within the short “bidding” period and planting season, and fit the established budget.

The project was awarded the 2018 Arboriculture Beautification Award from the International Society of Arboriculture.
